Interested in travelling to Vancouver by Greyhound? Here are our Greyhound travel tips, to make your journey easier!
Check our Greyhound fares page for tips to save money on your ticket reservations.
Before you book your Greyhound bus trip, take note of the alternative routes available, scheduled stops, and estimated travelling times from your point of departure. There may be some express Greyhound services, as well as much longer trips, because some buses go via the smaller towns, en route to Vancouver... for example, an express Greyhound bus trip from Calgary to Vancouver will take 14 hours, and the longest return journey can take more than a day!
(Note: Although the road trips by Greyhound can be long and tiring, the scenic views as you travel through the Canadian Rockies from Calgary make it well worth the trouble, especially as someone else is doing the driving!)

The Greyhound bus will pick up & drop off passengers along the route, so you could also consider making en-route or overnight stop-overs, in the smaller towns to break up the length of your journey. Check your ticket restrictions, to see if this is possible, or plan several shorter journeys to do this.
If you prefer, you can also reserve a seat in advance, to have a more comfortable journey. In fact, we highly recommend it! A Greyhound seat reservation only costs a few dollars, and it's well worth it, for long journeys. Then you don't have to make sure you're one of the first in line for the bus to Vancouver, to get better seat choices. This is also a good option where you will be joining a bus that's in transit, which may already have an almost full load of passengers.

If you're on a lengthy bus trip, and/or an overnight journey, take the time to plan for a more comfortable jouney. Buy some of the special travel accessories commonly used for airline travel, like an inflatable neck pillow.
Take along your favourite recorded music or some light reading (magazines or books) to help pass the journey. Or you can also just use the time to just rest and relax! Most of us are too busy to have enough time to do that :-)
You will have the opportunity to get off the bus at some of the scheduled stopping points, so use those stops to get some fresh air and stretch your legs. Sitting in the same position for lengthy periods of time, can also cause the danger of pulmonary embolisms (blood clots) in your legs. These embolisms are sometimes experienced by airline passengers on long flights, like trans-atlantic or trans-pacific flights.
Taking some light snacks and refreshments on your Greyhound bus trip, is also handy, if you prefer to avoid waiting in the convenience store line-ups at the scheduled bus stops.
