What is Vancouver Convention Centre West?

It's the very impressive expansion of the original Convention and Exhibition Centre at Canada Place. The new centre overlooks Coal Harbour and Burrard Inlet, & is situated just a short distance away.

Floor to ceiling glass windows (several storeys high) provide spectacular panoramic views of the mountains and harbour,and also floods the centre with natural light.

40% of the centre is built over land and water.

The centre has a living roof, and even fish habitat has been built into the foundation, in the design commitments to green tehcnology and sustainbility.

There are 4 levels in the centre:

• Exhibition Hall Level, with 3 exhibition halls
• Level 1: smaller meeting rooms, Rainforest Lounge
• Level 2 Crystal Lounge, Okanagan Wine Country, Coastal Lounge
• Summit (level 3) open air decks - urban lounge setting

The open house was held on the first weekend of April 2009 (April 4-5), to showcase the centre and allow the general public to get their first look at the impressive new facilities.

According to the attendants, the centre only opens for its first convention in September. In the meantime, they will be offering tours around the building. So if you are interested in seeing the new convention centre, contact them at the numbers provided below.
