Have Fun with Science, at the Vancouver Science World
Most kids love visiting the Vancouver Science World! There are many interesting exhibits to explore, live shows and an Omnimax Theatre to enjoy, plus lots of gadgets and gizmos on display, to experiment with, and keep them occupied for hours.
Live Shows
The Centre Stage Live Shows have regularly scheduled interactive scientific demonstrations, where the kids are often very active participants.
Exhibitions
There are several permanent exhibitions, like the special Kidspace Gallery (for children under 6) and the Illusions, Bodyworks and Our World Galleries, for kids to experiment and play with.
The featured exhibitions are usually changed every few months, to add more variety. On our most recent visit, the featured exhibition was for Grossology, some of which looked as gross as the names sound :-)
OMNIMAX Theatre
There's also the OMNIMAX Theatre, which has one of the largest dome theatres in the world. (IMAX Theatres just have rectangular screens.) Click here, to see what's currently playing in the theatre, and the show times.
Science World has affiliations with other similar instititutions in Canada. When we arrived, I asked about it. To our surprise, our Calgary Science Centre membership cards were acceptable, and we received free admission to the centre! So if you have a membership at a similar facility in your city, it may be worthwhile to check if you can use your local membership in Vancouver, too.
Note: the Vancouver Science World has since been renamed the Science World at Telus World of Science, Vancouver. Check out their website at www.TelusWorldofScience.com/Vancouver, or call them directly at 604-443-7440, for more information.

The closest skytrain station is Main Street/Science World. From downtown Vancouver, you can take either the skytrain Millenium Line or the Expo Line to get there. It's a quick ride from downtown, and the Science Centre is across the street.
